is there an easy way to do this on like a whack of images all at once...or just how do you do it even on one shot..the book I have here is really not telling me anything..it is the users guide..could just be that i am missing something..if watermarking is a way to big a deal...then is there another way to otherwise mark up the shot so it will not likely get used but you can still see what it is...about to burn about a hundred images to disk and just sorta put them out there..and don't really want them to get used with out me knowing about it..so is there an easy way to do this is the main question..or do I just trust in that mostly human nature is positive and honest...

Well... there are two basic answers to this.
First, include a copyright symbol/info/date as text in the image itself. I make mine visible but not overwhelming down in the corner somewhere.
Second, contact http://www.digimarc.com and license a personal watermark. This is an image you provide that they keep on file. It is embedded via Filter, Digimarc. You enter your code and it imprints an invisable version of this image into your image that can be detected when someone opens your file in Photoshop... Take a look at their site for all the options available.
In both cases you can record an action to apply these to batches of images. If your images are different sizes it can get a bit tricky to get the text to be the right size.
The simple answer is that I haven't found a easy way to apply copyright info to a bunch of images at once if they are different sizes but I intend to do more research on this.

Sir Swanky.
Two parts to this post:
Section 1: Batch/Action alignment of watermark/text on different size documents.
Section 2: See-through/transparent watermark and its action.
Section 1: Batch alignment
As far as placing a watermark on images of varying sizes, I have a photographer client who I create actions and droplets for that will do just this.
Try this
You'll need to find the smallest picture you'll be using and the largest picture you'll be using.
1. Start creating your watermark action on your smallest document by using text size that will fit and be readable on both pieces.
2. After you've created your text, select the background (or image) layer and then link it with the text layer you'll be using as your watermark.
3. Go to Layer > Align Linked (and in this case I chose Align Linked > Vertical Centers and then Align Linked > Horizontal Centers) and choose a vertical alignment option and a horizontal placement option.
4. Stop recording the action and play it back on the larger image.
As you can see from the 2 leather jpegs (http://www.angelfire.com/goth/photoshop/index.html) , these steps will align your text/watermark on different size images.
Section 2: Transparent watermark
I'm sending you an action that creates a see-through watermark so you don't have to worry about distracting from the visual integrity of your photograph (If anyone else is interested, just let me know).
The great thing about this action is that the watermark is on a separate layer. The significance of this is two-fold:
1. It's not burned into the image so you can turn the watermark layer on or off.
2. You can always reposition or resize the text and the watermark is updated dynamically and retains its transparency.
The see-through watermark on this piece was from a print piece I did, so you'll have to forgive the significant hit in took in downsizing it for the web. I didn't worry about going down in 50% increments or Unsharp Masking it after each downsample as I'm only demonstrating the watermark (which looks better on an original).

Hey Rick,
That's a nice watermark, if it's not too much trouble I'd like you to send the action to me too :D

I'm totally ignorant on this issue and maybe it deserves a new thread all to itself but here it goes. Sir Tim wants to protect his intellectual property with a watermark. Let's say he finds some unscrupulous charachter, which in and of itself may be near to impossible, unlawfully ripping one of his images for either commercial or personal use. What can he do? And just to add some difficulty to the equation, as this is an international forum, what if the perpetraitor resides in a different country? Are there any legal standards which are upheld via the international courts? It would seem that if Giants like Microsoft and Adobe can do little to address this situation, what is a guy like Tim to do? Are there any organizations out there specifically addressing this issue?

Doh,
I should read dates more carefully, I didn't realize I was reviving a 4 month old thread.
My apologizes.
Sorry Osakajo,
I don't have an answer to your question. Personally I publish very little of my work online just for this reason. If I do, I either make it so small it's almost useless to thieves, embed a watermark or be sure that it's a piece that I'm prepared to loose to pirates.
From what little piracy I've witnessed online offenders usually back down upon receiving angry emails from artists and their friends in the community.

You've nothing to apologize for. I'm happy to send out
the action to my friends from photoshopTechniques, that's
what the site's all about - sharing and helping each other out (and throwing in some cool drink recipes too!).
Just because a thread is older in date doesn't mean it's irrelevant.
For example, when I get the time I'm gonna have to go through some older threads to check out some very stellar techniques I've wanted to play with and probably will be asking many questions on. They might be older, but they sure will be relevant for me.

Cute pic!!!! Nice Legs!!!! OH baby!!!!
Rick thank you for the action, that is very nice of you to give it out!!
How long have you guys been here playing at this sight? I just found it going through the NAPP sight. I just became a member of the NAPP. I have only been playing around with Photoshop for about 6 months but you could say that I am a junkie now!! I just LOVE this sight and hopefully soon I will get the guts to try some of the other sights like the volleyball and the challenge but I'll just keep a low profile for right now.
Thanks again, Beans Z:b2

I just became a member of NAPP and was going through the stuff there when I came across this site in their forum. I have only been a Photoshop junkie about 6 - 8 months but got the bug bad!!
I really like this site it's cool!! I have already learned alot just from going through the forum and finding different tutorials and lots of questions that I had that were answered by others asking the same questions. I guess I would be catagorized as a beginner - intermediate. I took a class and had a GREAT teacher, him and books LOTS of books...... I try to read everything that there is about Photoshop. If you know of other really good sites I would love to have them.

Hi.
I hope I got to the right place...
I in the process of building my site featured by quite extensive image galleries and now have to figure out how to burn a small non-obtrussive but still quite dicernable Copyright notice at the bottom of the image in PS7.
I have yet gained an expertise in PS, so wuold appreciate a simple plain explanation.

Thanks, I already did it and seems to work great. However haev troubles to figure out how to get out the copyright symbol in PS7
in Win XP Pro (PC)
Was advised ALT + 0169 - doesn't work.
in Work I'm able to get it printed in the doc my CNTL + ALT + C, but doesn't work in PS7 either.
Any other ideas ? (except of cut & paste from other applications)

Alexz, one last idea, do you do the 0169 on your numeric keyboard?
what does the character map give you for copyright? and you can use it to insert characters, too...

alexz:
The copyright symbol keyboard shortcut (ALT + 0169) works on Windows XP Pro as well as Windows 2000, and '98. You'll need to use the numeric keypad that Sir sPECtre alludes to (on the right hand side of the keyboard instead of the numbers directly below the function keys.

Ricj, your contribution is extremely helpful also. I'm so glad to be on this wonderfull list being able to learn from real PS pros...
Now, next issue to tain yuor brain :-)
(and for me to learn from you and other knowledgable guys here)
This is this is supposed to deal with Color Management. The images I work on come from my Nikon IV ED film scanner scaned into Adobe 98 RGB. Afetr being edited in PS and prepared to be JPEGed for web purposes I convert them into sRGB for best monitor viewing. Despite this fact, the images look quite flat and dull in terms of color saturation while outside of PS (viewed in internet browser or XP viewer). Trying to save JPEGs in original Adobe 98 RGB bring image that appears even mode flat (and this is expected, so should be converted to sRGB).
My monitor is calibrated by Monaco hardware/software tool (Monaco SENSOR) and the profile is loaded into OS automatically upon Win XP power up.
Another pictures (not mine - on other site) look just great on my monitor though.
Any ideas ?

Rick, could you send me your action for watermarking, and if possible could you explain to me how I can go about aligning the text to the bottom right of an image bearing in mind that all the images within a batch may be different sizes. My Email is Snezza69@Hotmail.com. I may have posted a similar request in another forum as well. Any help would be gratefully received.

Welcome, sneeza!
You can download the action in the ninth post on top of yours.
You should try to record an action yourself, using Rick's action as a reference!
Make sure when you create it to change the rulers to percentage, so the watermark will be in the same relative position.

Just to add an alternatives to the usual method: instead of changing the layer blending mode to screen/multiply, reduce fill opacity to zero when creating layer style. Not much of a difference but it doesnt depend on your layer blending mode or what colour your text starts out as which may be useful for some. You can align your watermark to the bottom right after you've created it by selecting all and then "layer>align to selection>bottom edges" then "layer>align to selection>right edges". If thats too far into the corner, transform your selection before aligning the watermark.
Welcome Snezza69, Ricks action is available above but for your purposes it would make more sense to create your own from scratch.
