I have a question on batch/automating. I'd like to be able to create an action that takes a bunch of thumbnails and plops each thumbnail image into a standard square image, say 125 x 125. However, whenever I try to record the action and move the desired thumbnail image into a new blank 125 x 125 image, the action is recorded as "select next document." It doesn't record the move of the image layer. Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong or how to do the job better?

If your goal is to resize an image to fit inside a 125x125 square, then the "Fit Image" command under the File: Automate menu is what you're looking for. If you just want to duplicate the effect of dragging the image into a 125x125 blank document, this action should do it. It basically creates a new 125x125 selection in the center of the document and crops it.

(if you don't know how to load the action file: after unzipping the download, click the little triangle at the upper right corner and from the menu choose "load actions" and select the .atn file)

If you're trying to create a page of thumbnails, I would suggest using File >> Automate >> Contact Sheet II and fill in the appropriate parameters.
