Hi!
I seem to have this problem everytime I try to save a few files in JPEG format in batches:

1. First, under Action, I open a file and include what functions to perform
2. then I save it in JPEG format which prompted a dialog box that asked for quality.
3. after I'm done creating the Action, I run the Action in batch mode.

But for each file, Photoshop generates that JPEG save dialog box for quality. this means that I have to click or press enter for every single file even while Photoshop is processing in batches!

So how do I supress that dialog box when running in batch mode and let photoshop save everything in JPEG format without pausing and at the quality I have determined when I created the Action?

btw, I'm using Photoshop 7.01 on windows

Thanks!!!

It's been awhile, so I might be a bit hit-or-miss.

I think you can suppress or override the save dialog when you run the batch.

In the Action, select the save step, start recording, hit Enter, and stop recording. When the dialog pops up, Okay should be the default and Enter should "hit it".

Try changing the Modality of the save step. It's that funny little box in the Action palette next to the checkboxes on the left.

The main reason for this can be found in the fact that "normally" every pic needs a different jpg compression setting.
If you are on Windows, you can use Irfanview for easy batch jpg.

To starte, use a TIF or other format to record the action. While recording, do a Save As... JPEG, then Close. Stop recording then batch it. Should work.

Save As from one format to JPEG is the key.

Stroker has got your advice there

Look at your SAVE step in Actions. Its probably the box (icon which looks like a tiny dialog box) on the left of the actions palette which can be used to call up any dialog while the action is running- turn this box off.

Remember also …*There are two ways to save jpegs directly from photoshop. You can also use Save for Web. Set your compression rating there and use THIS in the action instead of a conventional Save As. This will definately do it.

Remember that if you use "Save For Web", the profile can be stripped off, as well as all the metadata (good bye exif info, or copyright notice)

Another solution to supress the dialog box resides in the batch window:(I did find it in Danny Raphael's action tutorial http://www.atncentral.com/tutorials.htm )

In the file>automate>batch dialog, check the "override Actions save as commands" for the Destination folder.

The name you gave to the JPEG you created in the original action will be discarded, but the settings you used will be applied on each image without the annoying dialog box.
