Can someone point me to a thread/webpage about creating Actions?

I did a google search and a forum search, and so far, it's just people talking about actions in general.

After reading up, am I understanding this correctly, that I could do something like the following with Actions?

Capture the following keyboard commands:

CTRL + A
EDIT > TRANSFORM > FLIP HORIZONTAL
CTRL + D

And save it as an Action called am_Flip_Horizontal.atn. Then how would I go about loading that action automatically each time PS boots and assigning a keyboard shortcut to it (say, CTRL + /) ?

I notice that some Actions are black, some are red. Some have a checkmarks and others have toggle icons. I think I have the concept down, but just not the how-to knowledge.

I recommend reading the beginners area first, then the examples, and little bits here and there... then when you'll NEED to know more, print the stuff on a cheapo laser printer (dual side, to save trees) and read it before going to sleep to have action induced dreams :D

Good idea.

Maybe it'll help move me from my Layer Adjustment Dream/Nightmares.
